Samuel's First Birthday Party!!

Soooo.... just came across this post in my drafts... not so sure why I never published it... But now, a year and a half later - here's a post about Samuel's 1st birthday!!

We celebrated Samuel's first birthday on Sunday, the 14th of August, 2016. All of Samuel's family was here to share the special day with us!

The party started out with everyone just hanging around and Samuel deciding to take his first steps for everyone there! It was pretty amazing - I may have even jumped and screamed a little!

After all that excitement, we had lunch. Trent had smoked a pork butt and a turkey, so we had sandwiches, salads, fruit and drinks.

After everyone filled up on food, it was cake time! Samuel sat in his highchair with his cake so we could all sing to him and then we let him dig in. He was really pretty timid about the whole thing at first until he got a taste of the frosting and decided to really take handfuls of it. We let him go at it for a while before we took it away :)

 Then it was time to open presents. Everyone gathered in the living room and we started the marathon of opening presents. Samuel didn't really "get" it (which was understandable) so we let him pull at the paper a bit and then we'd get the gift out and let him check it out before we moved on to the next one. Occasionally, he just wanted to keep playing with one toy so Trent and I would continue to open on his behalf until he would come back for more!

He got a beautiful and awesome handmade blanket from Danielle!! I think he loved it and was very thankful!!

After all the gifts were open, we had birthday cupcakes and everyone hung out with the birthday boy while Trent and some other people put a few of Samuel's new toys together, including his car which quickly became one of his favorites!

It was such a fun day celebrating all our favorite little one year old!!! Samuel is one lucky guy!!
