Samuel Davey - Six Months

Weight:
At Samuel's 6 month appointment he weighed 20lb 6oz!
90th percentile
During the last month he also went to the doctor on the 28th of January and was 19lb 15oz and on the 13th of February he was 20lb 3oz.

Height:
He's now 28.5 inches long (96th percentile)
When we brought him to the Dr. on February 13 he was 28.25 inches, so he grew a fourth of an inch in a little over a week
His head circumference at his appointment was 46.5 centimeters - 98th percentile :)

Clothes:
He wears onesies that are 9 month - 12 month in size, but the 9 month ones are borderline too short. Eventually I'll just take them all out of the rotation, but not quite yet!
In pants, he wears anywhere from 9 month to 18 month. The 9 month ones are pretty tight and short, but he still wears them well :) the 18 month ones fit wonderfully around the waist but are a few inches too long... There's no real perfect size, so he just wears them all.

Sleep:

His sleep would have been great had it not been for his illnesses this past month. You can definitely tell when he's sick because he wakes up in the night and isn't happy and then as soon as he is mostly over it, he goes back to sleeping through the night without any issues.
He averaged 8 hours and 20 minutes for his long stretch of sleep at night this past month. His shortest stretch was a little over 5 hours and his longest was just shy of 11 and a half hours.
In the two bouts where he was sick, he averaged around 7 hours a night before getting up for a little while. It doesn't sound so bad, but when 3 of those hours are before we even get to bed, it makes it a little rough.
At least we know that he was sick and knew why he was having a rough time sleeping at night, so we were pretty certain that there would be an end eventually and we hate to see him sick, so we all got through it together!
Samuel still hasn't fully figured out the whole nap thing at daycare. He went for a while where he'd take anywhere from a 1 to 3 hour nap at some point during the day but there are stretches where he sleeps for 25 minutes total. I'm hoping that the latest sleeping strike had to do with his illness and he'll figure out the long naps again soon! He naps a decent amount - he at least has a higher number of naps - at home, so either he's not given the opportunity to nap at daycare or he has a fear of missing out which prevents him from sleeping there. He is at least pretty happy all day so it's just us that wants him to sleep :)

Likes:

Samuel likes most things :)
He still loves attention and watching what's going on around him. He loves to grab onto anything thats within his reach and stick everything he can into his mouth.
He likes watching the dogs walk around in the living room and will smile at them when they get close to him or when they are wrestling around with each other or are rolling around on the ground. It's pretty precious.
As far as food, he has seemed to like everything we have given him except the green beans weren't his favorite. He still ate them but he wasn't as interested in them as the rest of the kinds of food. He has eaten prunes, sweet potatoes, squash, and green beans so far.

Dislikes:
There still isn't much that Samuel doesn't like. He doesn't like to be left alone for too long, but most the time, if he can see someone, he can keep himself entertained and content for quite a while. (We don't have a habit of leaving him alone in a room, so he can usually always see someone!!)
He gets upset when he is ready to eat but we choose to change his diaper before feeding him. This usually happens first thing in the morning and sometimes at night, but it can happen anytime when he's just not in the mood!

Firsts/Milestones/Development:
This month, I'd say Samuel became an official sitter-upper! It was right at the end of December when he was starting to be able to hold himself up for little bits at a time before getting too tired, and then, by the end of January/beginning of February, we were comfortable leaving him alone sitting up for a bit, but now, when I drop him off at daycare, I can leave him sitting up and he can sit up for 30+ minutes at a time! He will occasionally get a little excited still and topple over, but he does pretty good at correcting himself and being able to reach for toys he wants while sitting up and things!

Samuel also rolled over this month! He had been pretty close for quite a while, so I was sure that he'd do it while at daycare one day. It just so happened that we had a snow day on the 2nd of February so we were home for the day and he chose that day to roll over for the first time from his back to his belly!! I was so shocked and happy that he did it! It was a pretty proud moment! After he figured out that he could do it, he rolled over constantly for a few days, then it kind of stopped. Now, he definitely CAN roll over, but chooses not to most of the time! (He can also roll from his belly to his back, but he doesn't do that much at all for us at home. They said that's what he does the most at daycare, though!) You can see the videos of his first rolls here! (You'll have to excuse my silly talk! I'll do anything to make him laugh!)

He attended his first AWV sporting event this month when we went to watch Uncle Dan coach the girls' team and watch Alex play in the boys' game. He did really well and had a good time showing off how cute he is! He also had his first Pizza Ranch experience that day. I'm positive there will be many more trips to the Ranch in his future!

On the 7th of February, we dedicated Samuel to the Lord at church. You can read about that here. It was a great day that we spent with our families and it meant so much to us!

Sadly Samuel had his first sicknesses this month as well. At the end of January, he had a double ear infection and the second week of February he had RSV. There were a few rough nights when he had these illnesses. It was one of the few times in his life that he has really been inconsolable at night. It was really not fun at all! With his ear infection, he took an almost 4 hour nap at daycare and I just knew they were going to be calling me to tell me he was sick, and sure enough, not even 10 minutes after he woke up from the monster nap, they called to tell me he had a fever and I needed to come pick him up. So, he got to stay home with us and with Grandma Kock for the rest of the week while he got better. Then, with the RSV, he didn't get kicked out of daycare because there wasn't a fever involved, but we still kept him home for several days so he could get lots of one on one attention all day! It seems as though we're just passing sicknesses back and fourth between the three of us here at home, but hopefully we can all get rid of the large amounts of mucus we've been dealing with real soon!!

Samuel has also started talking a bit more this month. In addition to his squawking, screeching and mumbling, he has started with the repetitive "da da da's" and "ba ba ba's". The "da da's" are the most common sound by far! I keep showing him how to make the mmmmm sounds with his mouth so he can say "ma ma" but we haven't quite figured that one out quite yet! ;)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

Samuel's nicknames that have made it through the first 6 months of his life are Buddy, Buddy Bear or Baby from me and Stinky from Trent. He's Baby Beluga to Aunt Kellsey and Slammin' Sammy to Kenzie. I'm sure these will all evolve over time!

I can't believe how grown up Samuel is getting already! I love seeing his little, fun personality coming out. He has the best little laugh and such a heartwarming smile! His teachers at daycare seem to love him and say he is just such a content and happy  baby. There have been several times where they've told us that he will just sit there and giggle at them or at other babies or even himself in the mirror. It makes me so happy to see him happy! I am so looking forward to all that is to come as he keeps discovering the world!!
